Gordon Ramsay has ramped up his vegan offerings after opening his latest restaurant.
The hot-headed chef, who used to be extremely critical of vegans, recently opened the doors to a new Hell’s Kitchen.
Located in Washington DC, the eatery boasts a dedicated vegetarian/vegan menu, with reports suggesting 60 percent of the food is meat-free.
Vegan options at Hell’s Kitchen
Customers can opt for Tofu Scallops, Butternut Squash Risotto, Beluga Lentils with sautéed veg, and a Golden Beet Salad. Prices for meat-free mains average at $18.
“Washington, D.C. is a remarkable city with so much history and an amazing culinary scene,” Ramsay said in a statement.
“After years in the making, I couldn’t be more excited to officially open the doors.”
Gordon Ramsay on veganism
Despite recently admitting he ‘loved vegan food’, Ramsay still garners criticism from animal rights advocates for the food he serves in his restaurant, such as foie gras.
Last year, vegan charity PETA urged the chef to remove octopus from his restaurant menus.
“Octopuses are hyper-intelligent animals capable of complex thought processes: they can navigate mazes, use tools, and learn how to do such things as unscrew lids simply by watching,” the organisation wrote.
“They are masters of disguise, they decorate their homes as we do, and they have excellent memories. They are also extremely sensitive to pain.
“In fact, because octopuses’ brains are distributed throughout their bodies… The terror and pain they experience at being sliced up alive or speared to death, common methods of killing these animals, is almost unimaginable.”
Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen is located at 652 Wharf St. SW
