Grubby’s plant-based recipe kit become the first of its kind to show the carbon footprint of each recipe.

With more people becoming aware of the link between eating meat and climate change, Grubby will now offer its customers an easy-to-follow food carbon footprint dashboard.

The dashboard covers over 100 recipes and enables customers to compare the carbon rating of their vegan meal versus the meat equivalent.

Additionally, customers can track their 5-a-day portions from their chosen Grubby recipes.

The carbon impact of each dish is calculated based on a comprehensive life cycle assessment. The assessment considers the journey of each ingredient, including how its farmed, transported and packaged.

Based on the calculations, each of the recipes is rated on a scale of A-E. A-rated recipes have the lowest carbon footprint while E-rated dishes have the highest carbon footprint.

What’s more, Grubby’s vegan recipe kit is packaged with compostable materials and a large percentage are delivered via bike or electric couriers.

“We’re all much more aware of how vital it is to make positive changes”

In a statement, Grubby Founder, Martin Holden-White, shared: “We’re all much more aware of how vital it is to make positive changes today and we’re delighted to be able to give our customers an easy way to track their impact and see their carbon savings versus meat-equivalent meals.”

To help monitor emissions from food production, packaging and delivery, Grubby is working with My Emissions to calculate and reduce the company’s carbon footprint.

My Emissions Co-Founder Matthew Isaacs added: “I’m proud that we’re partnering with Grubby, and together can offer an integrated solution for carbon labelling and tracking for thousands of happy customers.

“I hope this inspires people to make more sustainable food choices.”
