Fans of Greggs infamous vegan sausage roll have been begging the company to create more vegan versions of its best-selling products, and the high-street bakery is kicking off the new year in vegan style with the launch of a brand new vegan menu option.

Launching in 1,300 shops today (2nd January), the new vegan steak bake will be rolled out to the remaining 700 outlets on 16 January where it will be available to purchase for £1.55.

Designed to mimic the tastes and textures of its non-vegan steak bake, Greggs’ vegan version of the popular pastry features 96 thin and crispy layers of puff pastry filled with a blend of Quorn mixed with diced onions and meat-free gravy.

In a statement, Greggs’ chief executive, Roger Whiteside, said: “Our vegan sausage roll launch was a huge success and we’ve been working tirelessly to expand our vegan-friendly offering and provide more delicious savoury food on-the-go options for people looking to reduce their meat intake.”

The high-street bakery chain made its first foray into the world of veganism last Veganuary with the launch of a vegan version of its popular sausage roll, which still remains in the company’s top five selling products today.
