A Burger King in Denmark is ditching meat from its restaurant for an entire month.
The fast-food chain’s store in Rådhuspladsen, Copenhagen, will turn predominantly plant-based* starting tomorrow (March 15).
According to reports, staff will ‘thoroughly clean’ the area before the eaterie’s meatless makeover to avoid cross-contamination from any remaining animal products.
Burger King goes meat-free
Customers will be able to choose from Burger King favourites, including the famous Whopper Burger, as well as ‘completely unique’ additions that will only be available for a limited time.
The plant-based burgers will be made using The Vegetarian Butcher patties, which are said to ‘look and taste like real chicken’.
However, some of the meat-free burgers on the menu come with sauces containing milk or eggs and are clearly marked. To make them plant-based, customers can order the burgers without.
Instead, customers wanting to add additional toppings can choose from plant-based bacon and vegan cheese from Violife which will also be available during the initiative.

‘Innovation’ within the plant-based sector
“We look forward to welcoming guests to our first Plant-based restaurant in Denmark,” says Carsten Lambrecht of Burger King.
“In the past weeks, we have opened similar concept restaurants in Sweden and Norway with great success. The Danish restaurant is meanwhile the largest of its kind in Scandinavia.
“By opening a restaurant that only serves plant-based and meat-free alternatives, we also get a good opportunity to test products that are not yet part of our traditional menu for our further product development and innovation within the plant-based segment.”
*Some burgers will contain sauces with milk or eggs. These products will be clearly marked on the menu card and the self-order kiosks and the burgers can be ordered without to make them plant-based. Burgers with these sauces are made on the same table as their plant-based counterparts.
