Billie Eilish has spoken out about animal agriculture, saying the industry is ‘horrendous’ for animals and the planet.
The musician, who went vegan when she was 12, made the comments while appearing at Power our Planet in Paris last month.
Billie was one of a number of performers at the event, which was hosted by international education and advocacy organisation Global Citizen.
During a backstage interview, broadcaster Berla Mundi asked Billie if there is ‘one particular message that anybody needs to know about climate change, what could it be?’

The 21-year-old musician replied: “For me, the most important thing you can do, is changing what’s on your plate and what you’re eating and, you know, trying to end animal agriculture.
“Eating a more plant-based diet is really really important.
“I mean, you have no idea how absolutely horrendous it is for the environment. For animals, I mean, it’s…really bad.”
She also noted that a plant-based diet can be healthy for humans, as well as offering environmental benefits and being kinder to animals.
Transitioning to plant-based
Billie’s interview marks the latest in a string of comments she has made in advocating for plant-based diets.
At the end of last year, she joined forces with Friends of the Earth, to support its Climate-Friendly School Food Program.
The musician made a video to promote the campaign, in which she discussed her own vegan journey.
In it, she said: “I was raised vegetarian and I chose to stop eating all animal products when I was 12.
“Once I learned about how animals are treated in our industrial food system, I didn’t want any part of it. Soon after I learned about the connection between animal agriculture and climate change.
“Climate change is a huge threat facing all of us, but it is especially frightening for young people and for vulnerable communities who are really, really going to suffer in our lifetimes. Shifting our diets towards more plant-based foods can have a major impact on climate change.”
