Cruelty-free beauty brand Aveda has announced it is now 100% vegan as of January 1, 2021.

Aveda states on their website that, “As of 2019, all products manufactured are 100% Vegan. And we are committed to having all vegan products on shelves by January 1, 2021″.

The brand has worked hard to find alternatives for non-vegan ingredients such as honey and beeswax in its products and has now replaced them with vegan ingredients across its range of grooming products including hair care, hair colour, body care, makeup, and aroma products.

Aveda’s popular haircare products are popular with haircare fans as they contain no chemicals, artificial colours or laboratory-created fragrances. The brand is well known for its commitment to environmentally responsible manufacturing and packaging making them a great choice for customers looking for high-quality products with a sustainable focus.

Aveda was inspired to switch to fully vegan formulas thanks to the devastating impact that using animal ingredients has on both animals and the planet.

Despite the challenges faced by the brand in swapping to plant-based and butters, Christine Hall, Aveda’s VP of Research and Development said that “becoming vegan was a natural next step for us to continue to lessen our impact on the planet.

“We were further compelled to expedite the process when faced with the facts around the impact of animal-derived ingredients on the health of the planet.”

Is Aveda cruelty-free?

Aveda and its suppliers do not conduct animal testing on its ingredients or products, nor do they ask third parties to conduct testing on their behalf. According to the company website: “Aveda is a cruelty-free brand. We do not test on animals and never ask others to do so on our behalf. Our products are people-tested.

Aveda products are also not sold in stores in mainland China or any other country where animal testing is required by law. However, Aveda was acquired by its parent company Estee Lauder in 1997, which sadly continues to test on animals where required by law.

Despite this, Aveda remains committed to caring “for the world we live in and for those we live with” by continuing to refuse to conduct animal testing and sticking true to its mission of being a cruelty-free brand.
