In a bid to meet the growing demands from customers for vegan options, UK supermarket Asda has released a new range of own-brand vegetarian and vegan options into its chilled aisle.

Following hot on the heels of the success of Sainsbury’s shroomdog range, Asda has launched a line of vegan-friendly Mushroom Cumberland Sausages seasoned with caramelised onion, sage and parsley, priced at £2.50 per six-pack.

After facing mounting competition from the likes of Sainsbury’s Love Your Veg range of meat alternatives and ready meals, as well as Tesco’s vegan Wicked Kitchen range, the retailer has also unveiled a host of vegetarian and vegan ready meals including a vegan Mediterranean Vegetable Gnocchi as well as a range of vegetarian products such as Beetroot Burgers, Roasted Red Pepper Sausages, Tikka Masala, Beetroot Risotto and Mushroom Stroganoff, priced between £2.30-£2.50.

Asda had previously launched a line of “perfect for barbecuing” frozen vegan burgers for this year’s summer range, following increased demand from vegans, vegetarians and meat-reducing flexitarians.

This Christmas, Asda will also be selling an affordable vegan cheese board which features three dairy-free cheese varieties. Not only the chain launching a vegan cheeseboard, it is also set to launch a Chestnut Roast, Vegan Chocolate Caramel Pots and a Vegan Pâté to help you have your best Christmas dinner yet!
