In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the quirky star behind the role of chess prodigy Beth Harmon, Anya Taylor-Joy, has revealed she feels ‘the healthiest’ when following a vegan diet.

The young actress has been a vegetarian since the age of eight but eats a plant-based diet wherever possible in her fast-paced work-life.

In the interview, she said “I was vegan for a long time. I got into it because it’s the most ecologically conscious choice you can make as a consumer.

“When I was a vegan it was the healthiest I’ve ever felt because I had so much energy. I was eating a tonne because I have a really big appetite and was getting in more greens.”

Being vegan with a busy lifestyle is becoming easier than ever, and we hope Anya manages to eat some great vegan food on her path to stardom.

‘Earth is the only thing we have’

Anya also expressed her encouragement of taking care of the planet and being more sustainable.

“I think it’s important in a commercial world to be as environmentally conscious as you possibly can be because at the end of the day the earth is the only thing we have.

“So if we’re not taking care of our home, you’re not going to have a home anymore.”

You’re completely right Anya! Plastic, overconsumption, food waste and throwaway culture are destroying our beautiful earth. There is no planet B, and we need to remember this when we go about our lives.

Vegan celebrities

An increasing number of celebrities are turning to veganism for their health, the environment or simply to end animal cruelty. While some stars promote the lifestyle as a ‘diet’, more people in influential positions showcasing plant-based alternatives can only be a good thing.

For example, Billie Eilish uses her huge spotlight to speak out against the meat and dairy industries, encouraging her fans to stop eating animals. Similarly, Natalie Portman boasts about the health benefits of a plant-based lifestyle and recently invested in a vegan leather startup creating leather from mushrooms.

Anya Taylor-Joy is a welcome addition to the vegan community, and we hope her health benefits encourage others to adopt a plant-based diet.
