Anya Taylor-Joy has branded Greggs a ‘national treasure’, revealing that she ate one of the chain’s famous vegan sausage rolls almost every day for breakfast while filming Emma.

The Queen’s Gambit star made the comments earlier this year while filming a video for LADbible alongside Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård.

In the clip, which is part of the outlet’s Snack Wars series, the pair follow the usual format – sitting down and trying well-known treats from each other’s homelands.

During the tasting, they compared vegan Greggs sausage rolls and vegan Swedish meatballs and fruit gums to a Swedish snack called Djungelvrål (a type of salted liquorice) among other items.

Greggs – a ‘national treasure’

In the clip, the pair lift a silver lid, to find their respective national snacks underneath – vegan sausage rolls and vegan meatballs.

As Anya sees the pastry, she says an excited ‘yessss!’.

She adds: “This is a sausage roll. Sausage roll wins immediately.

“This is a Greggs sausage roll, this is the sh*t…I had this for breakfast like nearly every day on Emma…I love this.”

When an unimpressed Alexander says the roll is not creating ‘an explosion of flavour in [his] mouth, Anya replies: “I’m insulted. Greggs is like, a national treasure.”

Is Anya Taylor-Joy vegan?

In a 2020 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Anya revealed that she has been a vegetarian since she was eight, and eats a plant-based diet wherever possible in her fast-paced work life.

She added that she feels ‘the healthiest’ when following a vegan diet.

She said “I was vegan for a long time. I got into it because it’s the most ecologically conscious choice you can make as a consumer.

“When I was a vegan, it was the healthiest I’ve ever felt because I had so much energy. I was eating a tonne because I have a really big appetite and was getting in more greens.”
