One of the world’s largest sporting brands Adidas has revamped three of its most iconic sneakers to make them vegan-friendly as part of its new ‘Our Icons Go Vegan’ line.
The Superstar, Samba and the Continental 80 are all made of a recycled polyester material coated in PU rather than with animal materials such as leather.
The Continental 80 design also features an EVA foam derived from algae which help to clean an estimated 30 litres of polluted lake water and is available in three colours.

In order to make it easier for customers to tell which are the vegan styles, the Vegan Superstar (£80), Vegan Samba (£80), and the Vegan Continental 80 (£75) feature an “Adidas Original Vegan” stamp on the heel.
Samba
Describing the vegan Samba shoes, the sportswear giant said: “A step in the right direction. The Adidas Samba shoes are no stranger to covering expansive ground.
“With the same look and feel as the original style, this version advocates for a better future with an entirely vegan design. The signature T-toe keeps them rooted in the soccer fields of the past.”
Continental 80
Adidas’ website touts the revamped Continental 80 as: “The shoe that once found its rhythm in the packed fitness studios of the ’80s makes some new moves today.
“These vegan Adidas shoes completely eliminates the use of animal products. So swap out the bold colors of the ’80s and exchange them for a brighter future.”
Superstar
According to Adidas, the Superstar design “have played a major role in the shaping of our culture. These shoes are vegan and entirely eliminate the use of animal products.
“And while the look and feel of them honor the past, where they’re going is forward. With your help, that is. Someone’s got to make them move.”
The new shoes are available to purchase now in the US as well as in the UK via sports retailer JD Sports.
