Treating yourself to a spot of pampering at a beauty salon is a relaxing activity that sadly many vegans cannot participate in thanks to the non-vegan products used.
After spending years trying to find a salon that offered vegan nail polishes with no success, Caroline Northrop was inspired to open a 100% vegan salon, The Courtyard Salon, so that vegans could enjoy a little luxury without worrying about compromising their ethics.
Speaking to local news outlet Cheshire Live about her motivation to open the salon, Northrop explained: “This wasn’t always easy but finding one where all items are cruelty-free, ethically sourced and British was impossible.
“You don’t need to be vegan to want to only use safe, natural organic ingredients on your skin and we are now more than ever aware of the harm we are doing to our environment.
“So I decided to open a salon myself and provide British products obtained in a responsible and sustainable way and where all the cosmetics have been developed by methods which do not involve testing on animals.”
Eco-friendly
Not content with ensuring the products used in the salon are vegan and cruelty-free, Northrop is also keen to make sure that the products are also less damaging to the environment than those typically used in beauty salons.
Discussing the eco-credentials of the products used, Northrop said: “We are now more than ever aware of the harm we are doing to our environment. With this in mind, we are all trying to do our bit to reduce use of single-use plastics and educating ourselves on our diets and how what we eat can have a huge impact on the planet.
“Therefore, why would we use beauty products that go actively against this? Not only are our products ingredients completely free from animal products we ensure that nothing has been tested on any animals and that all our products come from responsible manufacturers.”
The salon will not be using products that contribute to the huge problem facing the planet thanks to plastic pollution and will instead opt for products that can be recycled or are made from biodegradable alternatives.
According to Northrop: “There is no single-use plastic and everything is recyclable and bio-degradable. Alongside this we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint as much as possible and use nothing manufactured in China.
“We want the very best for our customers so come and help champion nature’s way to enhance what nature gave us.”
The Courtyard Salon is now open for business at Rufus Court in Chester.
