Fiona Oakes’ animal sanctuary is facing closure and needs your help

Tower Hills Stables Animal Sanctuary, which is home to over 400 animals, is seeking donations to safeguard the future of the sanctuary and the animals in its care.

As well as being an elite vegan athlete and holding three world records, Fiona Oakes, a former retained firefighter and vegan since childhood, runs her own sanctuary for rescue animals.

Sadly, Tower Hills Stables Animal Sanctuary has announced that due to lack of funding that the future of the sanctuary, which is home to over 400 animals, is under threat.

Taking to Facebook to announce the sad news, the sanctuary explained that “despite Fiona’s incredible athletic achievements gained in the face of chronic disability she remains relatively unknown/supported within the vegan community and virtually unknown in the wider community” and is struggling to raise enough funds via donations to help with the on-going costs of running the sanctuary.

The sanctuary is currently “behind some £20k on feed bills” and the running costs of the farm site have escalated beyond their initial expectations due to the vast amount of work required to turn it into a sanctuary for animals.

Tower Hills Stables Animal Sanctuary is calling on the public for donations, with the next few days being critical. According to the sanctuary: “In the meantime we will clearly keep caring for the animals in our care, but if we can’t find additional supporters and raise significant funding in the next few days, then it’s over. I can’t even begin to explain how crushed Fiona is. These events have destroyed her totally.”
