The best places to find vegan junk food on the high-street

Fancy something a bit naughty when you next eat out? We’ve reviewed what’s on offer at these popular high-street chains.

Absurd Bird

Rating: ****

Hot food: Tuck into cajun vegan bites and vegan tenders for starters, but save room for the main event – the vegan chicken and waffles has to be tried! There’s also a chickpea and sweet potato burger, a buff alo ‘chicken’ burger and vegan mac and cheese.

Sweet options: They don’t currently off er any vegan desserts but watch this space – they have plans for sweet treats and freakshakes in the near future.

Drinks: Try one of their vegan-friendly cocktails or gins — or if you’re not drinking, go for a ‘Prohibition’ alcohol-free cocktail. Just ask your server about which options are vegan before ordering.

Look out for: The weekend bottomless brunch, which includes a vegan starter, mains and drinks.

Frankie & Benny’s

Hot food: Their new menu features a host of options including dough balls, garlic bread, parmigiana and mac ‘n’ cheese. The menu also off ers two burgers – the Viva La Vegan (a plant-based meat patty) and the Beet burger.

Sweet options: Choose from lemon and mango sorbet or a dairy-free coconut ice cream.

Drinks: Request soya milk with your hot drinks or ask for a vegan milkshake.

Look out for: Their house red is vegan, as are some of their cocktails and beers.

What the Pitta!

Hot food: Now with four locations in the UK, this vegan kebab chain is a must-visit! Think doner kebabs, mixed mezze and falafels, all served with a choice of toppings including vegan tzatziki, mayo and chilli sauce.

Sweet options: We love the artisan ice creams and the sweet, flaky baklava.

Drinks: Choose from a selection of soft drinks.

Look out for: Order one of the meal deals (£10-£12) and sample a main, dessert and a drink in one hit.

Pizza Hut

Hot food: Following the sell-out success of their Veganuary pizza, Pizza Hut have just launched a huge new menu that includes five deliciously cheesy pizzas and the Jack ‘n’ Roll (an indulgent baked roll filled with sweet chilli, BBQ jackfruit and Violife cheese).

Sweet options: Enjoy the deliciously sweet Cinnamon Bites dessert, drizzled with icing.

Drinks: Choose from a selection of vegan-friendly wines, beers and soft drinks – ask your server for details.

GBK

Hot food: There’s now two burger options at GBK – the Jack-in-a-Bun with a butternut squash and quinoa patty, beetroot mayo, Korean pulled jackfruit, pickled onions and rocket or the pan-fried bean patty with vegan cheddar, smashed avocado, paprika onions, relish harissa mayo and salad, both served in sourdough buns.

Sweet options: Unfortunately there are no dessert options at present – but who needs pudding after a burger that good?!

Drinks: Opt for a San Miguel beer, fresh juice or green tea with peach.

Look out for: Ask your server for allergy information.
