Happy New Year!

My name is Sam, a recent recruit into the Vegan Food & Living team.

My work as an advertising sales executive on this wonderful magazine has taught me a lot already. Aside from not leaving chocolate around the office (nefarious hands wander everywhere!) I’ve learnt a huge amount about the vegan lifestyle.

I came into the team as a ‘non-committed’ vegetarian – a title which may need some explaining. I never buy meat or fish in any of my supermarket shops, but if a family member cooks for me or I go out for a meal, then I might be tempted – terrible, I know.

However, by working with passionate people on the editorial team and some truly astounding brands, I’ve been well and truly educated on the subject. Gradually that ‘non-committed’ status has subsided. What I think I’ve really learnt to understand is that change cannot happen overnight – not for everyone, at least.

When I learnt about the fantastic work that Veganuary does – a global initiative that encourages people to turn vegan for January –I decided that it was time for me to commit. For the entirety of January (and beyond!), I am dedicating myself to the vegan lifestyle for better or worse, and I will be talking you through my experiences.

I will be providing you with an insight on the great products that can help you transition and giving advice on how to overcome the obstacles that this change of lifestyle can throw up. If I can do it, so can you!
