We all get that Friday night craving for fish and chips from time to time! Thankfully, vegan ‘fish’ and chip shops are popping up all over the place, and many takeaways are adding vegan options to their menus. Here are 12 of the best vegan fish and chip shops from around the UK.

The Veggie Chippy claims to be the first pure vegan and vegetarian chip shop in the UK! Everything on the menu is vegetarian, and everything without cheese is vegan. Look out for the Battered Vod, Battered Vish, Masala Vod and Vish Fingers.

Matter Fastfoods Plant-Based Takeout, Bristol

Grab a takeaway from Bristol’s first fully-vegan tofish and chip shop and get your hands on healthy vegan versions of classic dishes. Among the favourites are fish and chips, kebabs and wraps.

The Orange Tree, Leicester

Although this restaurant is not entirely vegan or vegetarian, its tofush and chips are excellent! Caper-infused tofu is wrapped in nori seaweed and coated in gluten-free batter. It is served with minted mushy peas, tartare sauce and chips. Yum.

When owner Susan Ord became vegan, she made it her mission to start offering vegan options from her chip shop. Land & Sea now offers an impressive vegan menu which consists of traditional dishes made vegan such as crispy ‘prawns’ served with vegan ‘ta ta’ sauce, deep fried pizza (because why not?!) and even a vegan black pudding.

The Dove, Broadway Market

In the ‘Meat-Free’ section of the Dove Pubs’ menu, you can find beer-battered ‘fish’ & chips along with a large selection of other vegan pub food. The ‘fish’ & chips is tofu wrapped in nori, with homemade tartar sauce and mushy peas.

The vegan options on sale at this popular fish and chip shop include homemade vegan patties, homemade pea fritters, frickles (deep fried pickles) and To-Fish. Vegan curries and sides are available too.

Mono, Glasgow 

Mono’s beer-battered tofish and chips is the stuff of legend in Glasgow. Not only are the portions generous, but the chips are also twice fried for an extra special treat. If you want something posher, head to their sister location in Edinburgh, Harmonium, where you can get vegan crab cakes with boiled potatoes and samphire.

The Harbour Seafood Restaurant & Takeaway, Plymouth

You can grab yourself a three-course meal at this takeaway! Salt and pepper ‘squid’ is the starter, followed by fried banana blossom in batter with tartare sauce, and finished with gluten-free, non-dairy ice cream. Delicious.

Fish and Chips at Polsloe Bridge, Exeter
